I met Bret Michaels in Texas and talk to him about Breast Cancer Can Stick It, an organization founded by April Samuels who is a breast cancer survior herself and professional drummer. I want to thank Bret for his love and support with wanting to help others. I am happy to bring knowledge of this organization to Bret’s attention in order to reach out and spread awareness to help people in the fight against breast cancer.

Thank you for your time and support in helping other Bret!

Veteran Couple & Pet Parents Thank Bret For Inspiration During Diabetes Fight, Military Support & Pet Charities

Veteran Couple & Pet Parents Thank Bret For Inspiration During Diabetes Fight, Military Support & Pet Charities

I have been a fan of Bret Michaels for as long as I can remember but what I didn’t know was just how many of my life experiences he could relate to or what an inspirational person he would become for me. Even several years later when I had an opportunity to see Bret Michaels live (twice in fact, once in 2003 and again in 2006 I believe) at Burlington Steamboat Days, I still had no idea. The only thing I was aware of at that time was what an amazing show Bret put on.

Fast forward to the year 2010 and the show Celebrity Apprentice because this is when I learned that Mr. Michaels was also a type 1 diabetic and an individual who had certainly faced (and would continue to stare down) his fair share of adversity. It was in those moments captured on TV that I realized that all the time I had spent in the hospital, all of the struggles I had gone through to try and maintain a “normal” way of life were important events – they made me who I am and helped me grow in and develop further that same fighting spirit which Mr. Michaels possesses.

While my diabetes, along with its’ side effects continue to be a daily struggle for me, I have also been blessed in many ways. I have always had an incredibly supportive family. I have made countless friends in the 12 years that I have been ballroom dancing, a hobby I picked up to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In fact, my best friend and now, husband, is a man that I met while out dancing. He was in the Navy Reserves when we first met. Given both our family histories with military service, we decided to marry on Veteran’s Day of 2011. He brought four incredible children (he was previously married) into my life – a gift of kids that I had given up on long ago since control of my diabetes has always been more than difficult and doctors had warned against it because of the inherent increased risks involved.

Recently, I was given an opportunity to meet Mr. Michaels when he was doing a meet and greet for his Pets Rock collection at a local PetSmart where I live. He was so positive and caring and took the time to visit with both me and my husband (who became disabled in a random accident in 2012). I don’t think I even have the words to express how much those moments reignited our determination to live life to its fullest, to remember every day to grow in some way, and to use our struggles as fuel to help others. Mr. Michaels’ personal ties to JDRF and Operation Homefront also personally touch us.

Thank you Mr. Michaels and Team Bret Michaels for everything you do to raise awareness for these organizations! You make a difference for countless individuals every day and no amount of thanks can express the gratitude my husband and I feel for all you do.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Cancer Survivor Pays It Forward Through Dance

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Cancer Survivor Pays It Forward Through Dance

My name is Lore’ and I am the concept director and manager of Spirits of the Woods Performance Troupe. I have been a cancer survivor since 2006. Together with another cancer surviving friend of mine, we had decided to put together a 12 member theatrical dance troupe that performs for benefits and fundraisers of all kinds, because we felt that we needed to help others and to “pay it forward”.

Our first show was done for the animals and animal rescue sanctuaries that were impacted from the Black Forest fire in Colorado, last summer. We were able to raise a little bit of money to get pet/livestock food to these sanctuaries that took in the displaced and injured animals from the fire. And someone graciously donated some saddles, harnesses and heated water trough at our event. We will continue to put performances together to help support various causes whether it be for supporting a community event to raise money for their cause, cancer, MS, or any other illnesses, or anything to help with animals or wildlife.

Because of lymph node involvement from my cancer, I will probably always struggle with the thought of its return, but I’m staying strong minded and will continue to dance/act and create themed performances with the rest of my wonderful troupe to help others in need! Many blessings to all!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Elizabeth’s Story Of Survival

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Elizabeth’s Story Of Survival

I would like to share my story of survival. It’s been a rough 2 years. First my Father passed away, then I was diagnosed with Stage IIIc Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. First step into the unknown, doctors were not sure if chemo would work, we were hoping we caught it soon enough. At the time of diagnosis I was working as a Special Education Assistant and it brought back memories of Bret. I share a bit of history with him, back in the 80’s he came to the school I’m at (I’ve been there a long time) and visited. He made a huge impact. He has not changed, his compassion and empathy for other people is overwhelming. Then he overcame such darkness, I knew I could too. After Chemo, a Double-Mastectomy, and radiation, the doctors say I’m a miracle. Cancer free as of December 5, also my wedding anniversary. I am blessed to have known you Bret at that time, and truly wish you all the best, and nothing but luck in all you do.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Kindra Stays Positive About Diabetes

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Kindra Stays Positive About Diabetes

I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 4. It was the toughest time in mine and my family’s life, as it is for all children and the people who love them. One of my hardest times was in the hospital. It was hard for me to understand that every shot and finger poke was not the last one. That this was now a part of my new
life. I looked at my mom with big tears in my eyes and said Mom, I can’t do this and my Mom replied with bigger tears in her eyes and said Yes, you can and I have!

That was 10 years ago and now I am a healthy and happy 13 year old girl. I am a great student and gets good grades, I dances in competitions and have won numerous rewards, I love to be involved in the diabetic community doing the JDRF walks and attending the FCYD camps. And working with my mom and her club meeting with newly diagnosed kids at the hospital. And if you asked me today if I minds having diabetes, I will say, not really…

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Paige Builds Lasting Friendships At Diabetes Camp

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Paige Builds Lasting Friendships At Diabetes Camp

I can’t thank Bret Michaels and the Life Rocks Foundation enough for sending me to diabetes camp last summer (2013). Camp is the one thing I look forward to all year. For me camp is better than Christmas or birthdays or any other holiday. Camp is a time for me to see my friends that I’ve made there, to do fun activities, have fun, and for once feel like a “normal” kid. Since everyone at camp has diabetes, you no longer have to be embarrassed or feel like an outcast because everyone there is the same as you. Over the years, my camp friends no longer just feel like friends, they feel like family and without camp, I would have never met them.

My camp friends now come to my house and stay for weeks at a time and I visit them as well, so we keep our friendships going throughout the year and not just a week at camp. Along with making friends, we do different activities everyday. Some activities we do are: swimming, jet skiing, tubing, boating, rock climbing, high ropes, archery, paintball, dodge ball, volleyball, horseback riding, and many others. My favorite activities are jet skiing, and the high ropes. Every year when camp is over we cry saying goodbye to our new and old friends and are already waiting for next year to come.

Thank you for making all this possible.

Paige

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Marsha’s Story

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Marsha’s Story

Last August I was able to take my daughter to see Bret at Hampton Beach in NH. We were lucky enough to get his autographed hat & on his bus, it was the absolute best night of my life. I have admired Bret for so long and I absolutely adore, admire, respect & find strength through him and his music. That 20 mins he gave us his full attention, I was in such shock I could hardly talk. 2 weeks after I had 2 heart attacks in 1 day, I laid in ICU for 5 days and on my phone listened to Bret’s music and looked at his pics knowing all he has gone through and has fought, I found hope & strength. I was transported to MA General released 6 days later the pics I have from on the bus made me cry & smile every day. I have heart surgery for my A Fib and since then I have had severe blackouts just recently I had a bad one and fractured my skull, my brain is bleeding, I have a severe concussion and an acute concussion in my ear. With being on blood thinners the doctors say I am lucky to be alive, I know I am and there is not a day that goes by that somehow I find strength by something Bret does, or a song or just looking at his picture. Bret you are the most genuine, realistic, strong, beautiful hearted person ever and I want to thank you for everything you do and all the hope you give me & every one else! My parents know how much you mean to me so they have already bought my tickets to see you in May at Palace Theater in Manchester, NH I cannot wait! Hopefully I get close enough to receive another hug from you. I spray my pillows every night with your cologne, it smells absolutely amazing! I can’t tell you enough what you do for me on a daily basis just know I am your #1 fan some people say I’m a little too obsessed, I do not find that possible.

Hi Bret!

This is Rylan, I have type 1 diabetes my and my grandma has it too. Camp is one of the most fun things. Not only to help with my diabetes and seizures, but my mom has been missing for almost 2 years and camp is one place I can go to stop thinking about it. All my friends are there so it’s nice to go and see them too. Thank you for sending me to diabetes camp this year!

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Rebecca Realizes The Importance Of Diabetes Camp

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Rebecca Realizes The Importance Of Diabetes Camp

Rebecca will sacrifice everything to attend Camp Kudzu for a week in the summer. Camp Kudzu is for diabetics only. Rebecca, now 15 years old insists that camp is the only place she feels normal. Every camper takes insulin, counts carbs and checks blood sugar. Diabetes does not hinder the craziness and fun of camp; plus there are no parents hovering over her.

As for the rest of our family, we are incredibly thankful for Bret Michaels and the Life Rocks Foundation for offering scholarships for camp. With medical expenses rising each year, the cost of camp is difficult to pay. The constant finger pricks and injections that our brave child deals with daily makes the thought of denying her the opportunity to feel ‘normal’ absolutely too tragic to bear.

Bret Michaels and Life Rocks, you have blessed our family more than you know!
