TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Pet Friends Love Bret’s Pets Rock Collection At Petsmart

Max and Buddy want to thank you for their Bret Michaels’ Pets Rock collection toys available at Petsmart that they won in the rescue story contest! They love them! The snake that buddy has is very durable, which is hard to find because he chews up all his other toys, but this one seem almost indestructible! Max loves just hanging out with his ball, he is 14 yrs old so he don’t play much,  but he does like to just lay in he sun with it. Thank you!!! You made my furbabies very happy!

Bret Michaels’ Pets Rock Collection At Petsmart Brings Contest Winner –  The Davis Family Closer Together

Bret Michaels’ Pets Rock Collection At Petsmart Brings Contest Winner –  The Davis Family Closer Together

To whom it may concern,

I wanted to say thank you for sending my puppies the coolest Bret Michaels Pets Rock at Petsmart merchandise! They LOVE their new toys. I believe I submitted my story on your site about how we received our two fur babies. They are my world, just as a human baby is their parents world. They have been a lot more active with each other and on their own. This is such a good sign.

Our eldest chihuahua/miniature pincher mix, has been a bit sick off and on lately and the youngest, 3yr old same breed has tried to get her to play and she wouldn’t have anything to do with him or playing. Now, they have toys and fun things to play with and they don’t tear up the toys like a few others they have done to in the past.

Bret Michaels, Petsmart and team, thank you all so much for bringing our family closer and thank you for all that you do. I have attached some pictures of our fur babies and their new toys. I hope you all have a wonderful week, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Sincerely,

Sigourney, Ben, Jasmine, & Chopper Davis

TeamBretMichaels.com Pet Rescue Story

TeamBretMichaels.com Pet Rescue Story

I started rescue one day when I passed by a convenient store that was closed for the night and saw several litters of kittens searching for food. I spent the next month trying to catch these wild kittens, getting them healthy, socializing them and finally, finding them all new homes. Last check to make sure I didn’t miss a kitten, I found another litter….so I had to repeat the process. Then I noticed how quickly the feral cats kept reproducing. I have to thank PETSMART Charities for giving a grant to my local spay/neuter clinic to cover the cost of several of the spays and neuters. After that colony of cats was under control, I moved on to several other colonies and repeated my efforts several times, encountering many very sick or orphaned kittens…staying up day and night with many of them. Then family members started depending on me to help them, next my local vet clinics called on me for help also, not only with cats and kittens, but dogs and puppies too. My vet was very supportive in giving discounts for my rescue efforts. While at the vet one day, someone brought in two, 2 day old squirrels. The person was desperate to help them, but didn’t have the time to bottle feed every 2 hrs. My first attempt at small wildlife was successful! I then rescued rabbits, shrews, and chipmunks. After that, I began to do foster care for my local shelters. As of today, I have rescued about 280 cats and kittens, 65 dogs and puppies, 2 baby rabbits, 2 chipmunks, 3 shrews, and 6 baby squirrels. I’ve done rescue for 5 yrs. I’m now studying to do ultrasounds, but plan to be able to carry my knowledge to the animals, of course.

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Jackie Rescues Max After House Fire

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Jackie Rescues Max After House Fire

2 years ago I rescued I adopted a puppy from the humane society named Max. A few years later, long story short I got divorced and moved out of the home leaving max behind because I didn’t want to take him out of the only home he has ever known. Fast forward to last year, Max who is now 11 was the only one home when the house caught fire and his Dad was in hospital after falling off a roof and breaking his ankle. Max was trapped inside with no way out until firefighters opened back door . He came running out, he suffered burns from his head ot his tail, his paw pads burnt, and he didn’t open his eyes for 3 days due to smoke irritation. With smoke damage to his lungs and the burns, it was unclear if he was going to make it, especially at his age. The night of the fire, I ran to his rescue, brought him home with me and nursed him back to health. It was touch and go for about 2 weeks, but I smothered him with love and kisses. He made a full recovery and continues to live with me again to this day. He is now 12 years old and in great shape for his age!

Another story, 3 years ago, I went to the humane society once again and adopted a 1 year old dog who was found as a stray, his name is Buddy. He was at the shelter for a month, seen his friends come and go, but they all passed him up. I just had to have him! Now he is living comfortable with us and is spoiled rotten. You have shown his picture on your website, I sent you a photo with his Bret Michaels bandana on. How amazing is that, he went from being a stray living in a shelter for a month to being “famous” featured on your site. I have enclosed a photo of Max and buddy with their new Bret Michaels bandanas. Thanks Bret!

TeamBretMichaels.com Pet Rescue Story: Couple Rescues Sheba Who Helps To Cope With Loss

TeamBretMichaels.com Pet Rescue Story: Couple Rescues Sheba Who Helps To Cope With Loss

My fiance was in the middle of our street talking with neighbors when a tiny kitten of about 8 weeks walked up to them and started crying. They all bent down and petted her, but when it came time for the group to break up, she followed him home. When he let her in to show her to me we noticed she was blind in one eye and had worms very badly. The next day we took her to the vet. They were able to give us medication for her worms but nothing they could do for her eye. As we already had two cats in our small house we decided to take her to the office we ran in the mall to try to find her a good home. Many children wanted her but the parents shied away due to her blind eye. By the end of the day my fiancee had fallen so much in love with her we decided to keep her. Shortly afterwards our cats of 16 & 17 yrs old passed away. Sheba as we named her is the biggest love bug I have ever met and constantly wants to be held. She gives hugs and kisses like a human and everything loves her..human and animals alike…dogs, other cats. She even brought us home another stray whose owners abandoned her when they moved. Earlier this year our two daughters passed away. Without Shebas love and constant kisses, I am not sure we would have made it through that time of our lives. God definitely sent her to us for a reason.

Our Rescue Story…The Pinky Lee Nine. By Janna and Christine

Our Rescue Story…The Pinky Lee Nine. By Janna and Christine

PhotoGrid_1417237005019
Jade, puppy number one of the Pinky Lee Nine, with the Bret Michaels Signature Ugly Sweater Chance Plush.

We’ve shared the posts and photos of Bret’s many rescue stories, but we have a few of our own.

Over the years we’ve rescued some cats and dogs, too. Stray dogs, and a few cats, are an issue in many parts of the country, but especially in the semi-rural area that we live in. We live on one of those roads that makes it easy to leave a dog and hope that someone takes it in.

It seems that we rescued a new animal every year that we’ve lived here, some we’ve taken in and added to our family, some we’ve taken to rescues. All kinds of dogs, from mixed breeds to bully breeds, we’ve made sure that no dog starves or gets left out in the cold. We’ve taken in abandoned kittens and even a cat with feline leukemia that got to enjoy his short time with a loving family.

This year we took in a beautiful girl named we named Pinky Lee. She had been hanging around for a while before we decided to give her a safe, warm place for the cold nights. Pinky didn’t come alone, a couple weeks later we had nine more little mouths to feed. Pinky had nine adorably cute puppies that are now almost seven weeks old.

Our rescue story happened because we care about the animals, not only in our own home, but in our neighborhood as well. It just so happened that this particular rescue story came with a big commitment to making sure that those nine little puppies and their mama not only survived, but found loving forever homes.

In just a few short weeks, our rescue story starts its next chapter as we carefully place each of the puppies and their mama with their new families. In the meantime, the Pinky Lee Nine are growing up in a loving environment and that is the best part of this rescue story.  You can follow their story on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/PinkyLeeNine) and Instagram (http://www.instagram.com/pinkylee9).

We want you to share your rescue stories, to share the joy of making a difference in an animal’s life during this season of giving. There is no greater reward that giving a loving home to a pet in need.

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Heidi Pet Rescues Skyla

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Heidi Pet Rescues Skyla

Anyone who has ever loved and lost a pet knows how difficult it is to let go. Last August I lost my Siamese kitty Versace. It broke my heart when she suddenly passed away. It took a few months, but I decided it was time to get a new kitty this year. I was open to adopting an adult cat, or kitten. I kept my search open for a few weeks, checking the various websites daily.

Then in March, I came across a certain cat that caught my eye. She was a Siamese, approximately 3 years old. So I left work, and took an extended lunch break to go meet her. She was at the AZ Humane Society. When they brought her into the little room I knew she would be going home with me. She seemed super sweet, but I could tell something was wrong with her. She’d take a few steps, and tip over! It was like she was tipsy. I discussed this with the H.S. and they said it could be something neurological, or an ear infection, or something. I took my chances, and adopted her. The AZ Humane Society gives a $500.00 voucher of credit to use at a Vet.

When I took her in, she had 2 ear infections. Then in a few days, she came down with a respiratory infection. She was barely eating, or drinking on her own. I burned through the $500.00 credit in no time. I was syringe feeding her food and water. She was so sick; I truly believe she wouldn’t have made it without me. But today she is good, she is a super sweet cat, named Skyla.

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Jodi Pet Rescues Special Cats

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Jodi Pet Rescues Special Cats

Our story starts off with 2 cats left for dead on side of road. We rescued them and got them back to health. Years past and we decided we had more to offer. I went back and saved her, took her home to get her all fixed up, her shots, but when we went to get her fixed we found out she was expecting babies. We kept them all and as I was going work I found a box that had a kitten in it on the road. I took him home and loved him. 2 months later we saved a stray cat someone was abusing. I saved his old body from anymore abuse. He lived with us for 4 years and died of old age. We spent happy years with him. I am a proud pet rescue mom and I encourage everyone to be too.

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Family Pet Rescues Brownie, Becomes Hero & Friend

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Family Pet Rescues Brownie, Becomes Hero & Friend

In April 2012 it was decided we would get a dog, my husband let me be in charge of this and we knew we wanted to adopt from an animal shelter. It had been a rough two years, our oldest daughter had been very sick and in and out of specialty hospitals. I knew it was time for our whole family to have a pet to help them heal from everything we had been through. The search began, and the first dog we wanted from our local humane society fell through, we were next in line on the waiting list. I read a news article a few days later about a huge puppy mill raid on the other side of our state, and the horrific things these poor dogs had been through. It felt right, so we hopped in the car and drove quite a ways to see the dogs from the raid. My daughter kept telling me we needed to see this dog, the poor thing was so scared and shaking. I was hesitant to say the least, my youngest two children are rambunctious to say the least. When we met him and spent time with him in the little room that was it, let’s just say he picked us. Our Brownie had lived in a small kennel with 40 other dogs for the first three years of his life. We took him home and loved him and reassured him, he was scared of everything, he didn’t know what grass was, he was afraid of the wind, for the first two weeks I had to sit a few feet away from him to get him to eat and he would look to me for reassurance. He has blossomed, he loves the snow and car rides, and snuggling on a lap. I often say he deserves to be spoiled because he had such a rough life. But most of all his bond with my daughter can never be overlooked, when she is not feeling well from her medical issues, he won’t leave her side, they are bonded for life. Truly he saved us, and has been a tremendous blessing for our whole family.

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Pet Adopt Helps Family Cope After Bout With Breast Cancer

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Pet Adopt Helps Family Cope After Bout With Breast Cancer

My sweet angel mom passed away from breast cancer on May 10, 2013. She was 80 years young. We were devastated, sadness lingered our home. I thought maybe getting a dog would help with the healing process not only for us but my children as well. So I went to a local animal shelter and there she was, sitting as close as possible to the front gate as if to say pick me! She was so cute and sad at the same time. Snoopy we call her is a Beagle-Hound mix she was 6 months old and in a cage all by herself. I knew that she was meant for us. Since then she is a big part of our family and we love her very much.
