TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Jeannette’s Memory Of A Lifetime After Surviving Illness

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Jeannette’s Memory Of A Lifetime After Surviving Illness

In 1986 I was 19 years old, married and had a 4 month old baby girl. I had some swelling and redness to come up right below my right knee. Within a few weeks the most excruciating pain set in. I finally went to the Dr. who thought who thought I had just hurt my leg somehow. I was sent home with some meds to see if that would help. It did not ! The pain grew worse and worse. It hurt so bad I would just cry. I went back to the Dr. This time the Dr. knew something was really wrong. He did and xray and told me that I had a lesion and sent me to a surgeon. The surgeon told me it was a tumor in my bone. I was then sent to 2 more Drs. until finally I was sent to UAB in Birmingham , AL where I was diagnosed with the childhood cancer Osteo-genic sarcoma. I underwent a limb salvage operation and a year of chemo. I lost my hair, was very sick for a year while undergoing the chemo. That was around the time when I finally heard Bret for the first time. I loved Bret from the first time I heard him! When I would be so sick that I could not do anything, I would listen to Bret’s music. I would get up and dance with my nieces, cousin and friends using my crutches. Through lots of prayer and faith and music , I am proud to say I am a survivor of 27 years of this terrible disease. I always wanted to go to a Bret Michaels concert and never got to. I always dreamed about seeing Bret Michaels live . That dream came true this year Dec. 28th at Sammy T’s in Huntsville, Al. I got their early so I could get at the front and I did over to the side of the stage. Bret touched my hand , lol. I thought that was the most amazing thing ever. I had my baby girl with me, that was 4 months at my diagnosis. She is now 27. I am so glad to have survived and could make this memory with her . Love you Bret . Keep doing what you do. You are an inspiration to me!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Couple Looks To Bret For Inspiration

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Couple Looks To Bret For Inspiration

This year has been like a roller coaster ride. It has definitely had it’s ups and downs. I have been fortunate this year. I have epilepsy, but have been seizure free this year. My boyfriend Wayne hasn’t been that lucky. He had rheumatic fever when he was a kid. He was sick and in and out of the hospital. As an adult he has dealt with pain his whole life. The doctors act like it’s nothing. I know we have been together over 5 years and I see his pain each and everyday. His pain is getting worse and worse. He has fibromyalgia and degenerative joint disease. In April, we lost a friend to cancer. How do Wayne and I deal with all of this? We listen to Bret. Bret has a certain gift to help dull pain. It’s wonderful to get lost in the moment listening to Bret sing. We saw Bret on May 27, 2013 here in Cleveland, Ohio. This day was the best of the whole year (except finding out Tazzy Ray our beloved canine son’s tumor is benign). Bret just has this magic gift to help you get lost in the moment and forget your pain and worries. If it only lasts a little bit! I do wish we had gotten to meet Bret. That is my dream! Happy New Year to you and your family Bret! Can’t wait to see you here again in Cleveland!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Music Heals The Soul

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Music Heals The Soul

My husband is 52 and has become my miracle for the year, he was taken to the hospital on July 26th for a severe asthma attack, he went into 3 cardiac arrests and was in ICU for 22 days during the arrests, a blood clot was thrown into his hands and the doctors were only able to save one hand. My husband is an awesome guitar player and all I want is for him to play again. He has come out of the hospital with diabetes, severe memory loss, trouble walking and just having trouble getting by some days. I am thankful he is still in my life. My only wish is that he would be able to get his bionic hand to play his guitar again. This has put such a strain on our lives, I had to quit my job to stay at home with him, because I could not afford a nurse to come in with him. My husband is indeed a miracle I just wish I could get him what he needs.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: A sister’s love and support

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: A sister’s love and support

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to share my sister Mary’s story. My sister Mary has really shown me what strength is all about. Mary was diagnosed with cancer after having her daughter and went through chemo therapy and radiation, she has been in remission for several years. Recently my sister had been having heart issues and underwent open heart surgery at the age of 43, Mary now has an artificial valve which has helped the blood flow properly. After my sister underwent open heart surgery it was brought to her attention she was diabetic. I commend my sister so much for being brave and never giving up. Although she has had one thing after another challenge her she has never gave up! I’m posting this picture of my sister with Bret from Riverside California. I flew her to see him in concert and surprised her with VIP passes, I thought she was going to pass out, lol.

Bret will be coming to Oregon on February 8th at Spirit Mountain Casino and we will be attending his show for sure! What a great surprise if she could only meet up with him again and get some diabetic pointers.

Hey sis, I love you!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: A husband inspired by wife’s strength to fight diabetes

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: A husband inspired by wife’s strength to fight diabetes

My wife Jackey is a Type 1 diabetic and has been since the age of 18. Since then our lives have been filled with many obstacles from the
complications of this vicious and often ignored disease. It caused her career to end as the Neuropathies were so intense they were unbearable and nothing worked to relieve pain. There was no comfortable zone or moment in time for peace and no quality if life. Over 20 laser eye surgeries due haemorrhages in both eyes and the fear of blindness caused obvious stress.

We found relief for her through a regime of pain and nerve medications and for a decade this would be the norm of life. For a person who is so full of life with a heart of gold, who would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need deserved better. Now this is where Hope Strength and sheer Determination comes in. As bad as the pains and the stresses were.

Jackey’s hope for a better future gave her the strength to be determined enough to take herself off of the meds, self-educate about tight BG control and nutrition which lead to her return to her career and although Type 1 Diabetes will never go away for her at least she now has the quality of life she really deserves. I’ve watched her suffer through the bad times and I’m so amazed with her and so proud of what she has accomplished in life. A little Hope goes a long way. I love you babe!

Bret has been a strong influence for us with his tireless endless commitment to his cause and it’s felt across the globe because it’s from his heart. Thank you Bret. Never stop what you do for all of us!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org: Laura Finds Inspiration In Bret’s Music

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org: Laura Finds Inspiration In Bret’s Music

My name is Laura Odea Denlar I too have had alot of physical trauma as Bret and i give Bret kudos for getting himself well again. He inspired me after multiple injuries to get well again. I had a tragic accidents, multiple falls at houses i rented in Hamtramck, Michigan and the accident I had 7 years back which left me with degenerative disc disease, and multiple pinched nerves in my back, i had sciatica and neuropathy and could barely walk. I spent many hours listening to Bret’s music and his inspiration gave me the inspiration to go through spinal surgery just recently two weeks ago, I’m recovering greatly and I’m walking great and pain is no way like it was. My doctor told me either you have surgery or end up in a wheelchair in two years and there was no way I would do that I was so scared so with prayer and thinking of Bret and what he went through i had that surgery now in time I can play again with my 7 year old daughter Aria and my 10 year daughter Melody disabled with Autism and ODD. Thank you Bret for helping me make it thru this serious operation and to going on with a great recovery.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org: Lisa Doesn’t Let Diabetes Stop Her Olympic Dream

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org: Lisa Doesn’t Let Diabetes Stop Her Olympic Dream

y name is Lisa Chrzanowski. I was born on July 26th, 1996 in Paterson, New Jersey and my home is in Kinnelon NJ. I currently live & train in Warsaw Poland. I am a student at the American International School of Warsaw which makes me what we call a “third culture child”, I was born in one place, live in another and study in a multicultural environment. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes in August 2007 in Warsaw while my family was vacationing there for the summer. I started riding when I was eight years old and haven’t stop even after I started battling diabetes. After diagnosis it was decided not to let me stop being active and it soon proved the right thing to do, even though horse riding and jumping in particular is dangerous sport prone to falls and injury, the health benefits outweigh the risks. I maintain virtually the same insulin to carb ratio and insulin tolerance since my diagnosis seven years ago, and my sensitivity to the hormone didn’t decrease, all of which is very good.

I am the face of an awareness campaign called “Together We Conquer Obstacles” My goal is to one day make it to the European Championships and perhaps even Olympic Games. I want to show the world that diabetes didn’t disqualify me at the start, but in stead made me healthier, stronger and more put together then before. I think that show jumping is allot like daily life with juvenile diabetes because the disease puts forth many barriers and obstacles in front of us, but with proper management, support and education those obstacles can be conquered without a fault. I often spread hope and support for all who think that diabetes just like riding is hard and difficult, I promote mental conditioning and I believe that the worst fear is not what will happen if I fail, but what will happen if I quit? If you ride or would like to start, don’t be scared.

Peace!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Ashley Wants A Cure For Diabetes

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Ashley Wants A Cure For Diabetes

My name is Ashley and I’m 23 years old. I have been living with diabetes since I was 14. It was hereditary. I got it from my daddy who is 42. He has been a type 1 diabetic since he was 8. My dad and I can relate to Bret because it tore my dad to pieces when I was diagnosed and lord knows I hate shots. At the beginning I had my sugar under control. My a1c was perfect, but then I got on my own at 17 and it went down hill from there. I can’t afford insurance to pay for my doctor visits or my medicine. Medicaid denies me because I’m not blind or have cancer, so they say. I have to skip doses of my insulin just to make it last. I have been in and out of the hospital because I go into DKA because my blood sugar is so high for a long period of time. This disease is taking its toll on my dad as well. His kidneys, eyes , and circulation is bad . He is on dialysis until he can get a kidney transplant. I hate to see my dad go through this. He is more worried about me then himself . I just want a cure so families won’t have to go through this heartbreak. I also wish health insurance would take diabetes a little more seriously because they DO NOT know how we feel day to day when our sugar is out of whack. We feel sluggish and drained of energy. Bret has been an inspiration to keep on even when I feel like giving up. We need a cure now!

Thank you Bret Michaels for not giving up on us.

Ashley
