My name is Abby and this past summer I had the privilege of getting to meet you at your concert in Charlotte, North Carolina. I’m fourteen years old and living with the challenges of Type 1 Diabetes and you generously sponsored me to go to the best camp I’ve ever been to in my life. I have never been to diabetes camp until this year and it greatly exceeded my expectations. I cannot wait to go back and see all of my friends that I met there and make new memories this summer. I am beyond blessed to be able to have met you and for you to have paid for my stay at camp. What a wonderful gift that means so much to me. Thank you so much, it means more than you know to me that you sponsored me. I did so many activities with so many other kids who all had diabetes just like me. We could all relate and told all these crazy stories and tried to see who could beat their lowest blood sugar record. It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget. Throughout that entire summer, my mom had been training for a one-hundred mile mountain bike race in Leadville, Colorado. We were using this race to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and were able to get many sponsors and generous donors. By the time my mom finished the Leadville Trail 100, we had raised a total of more than eight thousand dollars!!! She rode one-hundred miles in just eleven hours and fifty-six minutes. It was a tremendous accomplishment and made up the entirety of our summer. I started my freshman year of high school this year and I’m almost finished now. I wanted to make sure to send you a HUGE thank you for your gift that has kept on giving. I’m still in contact with all of my camp friends that I met and hope to see them again soon. It has been such a privilege this summer and I definitely plan on going back. Thank you, Bret Michaels and keep rocking on.
