Dear Team Bret,

What an awesome night in so many ways! We saw Bret Michaels Band perform
at Ribfest in Mankato, MN on a gorgeous summer night (her first time), I
got to spend one last moment with my daughter who leaves soon for two
weeks at Camp Needlepoint and then to UWRF as a college freshman, I got to
see Bret in concert for the 9th time, AND my daughter got to meet Bret!

Bret was the one who sent her to Camp Needlepoint in the first place –
three years ago! Since then, she has spent many hours training to be a
full counselor to others with Type 1 Diabetes. This year she will spend
two weeks connecting, teaching, having fun and mentoring other kids.

Thank you Bret (and team, all of whom have been helpful, fun, real and
accessible) for Paying It Forward for my daughter. You changed her life!
And now she is Paying It Forward! This is what matters!

Oh, and she LOVED your concert – it was her first time seeing you! I have
seen you numerous times and it never gets old – only better!

LIFE ROCKS AND ROLLS!!

All our Love,
Julie and Hailey

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Sisters Thank Bret For Inspiration To Fight Through Illness

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Sisters Thank Bret For Inspiration To Fight Through Illness

My sister and I met Bret Michaels August 21, 2011 at Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa. It was the best night of our lives. I have been a fan since I was a teenager and can’t even count how many times I have seen him in concert. My younger sister has been a fan since she was a child. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 9 years old. I was too nervous to even get a word out when I met Bret. My sister had a nice conversation about diabetes with him. He complimented her on how healthy she looked for her lifelong battle. He was the sweetest, kindest man we’ve ever met. In January 2014, I went into respiratory failure and was in a coma and on life support for 6 days. It took months to recover and I returned to normal functioning but I have now been diagnosed with COPD at the age of 43. In March 2016, my sister also went into respiratory failure and was in a coma and on life support for a week. Due to her diabetes and other illnesses, she is now walking with a walker and has not returned to her normal level of functioning. She has developed a terrible diabetic ulcer on her heel and is now fighting to save her leg at the age of 37. Type 1 diabetes sucks! We thank Bret for all the work he has done for juvenile diabetes and we thank him for giving us the best night and memory of our lives! We are strong women and will continue to fight the fights we’re given! – Tara

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: A Grandaughter Gives Grandfather The Gift Of Life

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: A Grandaughter Gives Grandfather The Gift Of Life

My father was diagnosed with Stage 4 renal failure. His kidneys were shutting down, only functioning at 30%. Without dialysis he wouldnt live past 6 months. I began the process of donating a kidneyDuring a visit to U of M for the final panel of tests and the doctors found a lump in my neck which I had never noticed. After having a biopsy done, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Two week later I was having my thyroid and 68 cancerous lymph nodes removed from neck. I was no longer eligible to donate my kidney. While trying to save my dad’s life, he saved mine, he was back at square one. This was back in 2013. I am happy, and very proud, to say that in January 2016 my very giving and loving 21 year old daughter Courtney donated her kidney to her grandfather. He has adjusted well to her kidney and no longer has to do dialysis. She gave him the best give anyone could ask for, the gift of life. – Tobie

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: A Mother’s Strength For Daughter’s Diabetes Fight

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: A Mother’s Strength For Daughter’s Diabetes Fight

My daughter Chloe who was 7 years old at the time she was diagnosed with T1 on 11-10-2013. It was the worst day of my life. That weekend Chloe seemed like she was getting the flu, unfortunately we ended up in the ER Sunday morning with her BG being over 700. The ER doc told us he couldn’t do anymore that she needed to get to a children’s hospital, so away we went to U of M Children’s Mott’s hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.

That morning I almost lost my daughter to a diabetic coma. She was admitted & spent the first 24 hours in NICU pediatric diabetic ward. Finally she was moved to the pediatric diabetic floor for another 3 days before she was able to go home. My heart broke for my daughter on our 1st day home. As I was taking her sugar & getting ready to give her a shot for dinner, she turned to me & asked “when can I stop getting poked & shots?”, it just about broke my heart to tell her that she has to do that for life. She also asked “why did she get diabetes?”, I told her “God thought she was strong & brave and can handle what comes her way.”

It has now been 2-1/2 years and she finally graduated to an insulin pump. We go for her 6 week checkup on the 20th.

Chloe is healthy & thriving.

Thanks for letting me tell or story. – Christine

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Bret Meets Local Tulsa, Oklahoma Diabetes Children

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Bret Meets Local Tulsa, Oklahoma Diabetes Children

On a night in Tulsa, Oklahoma where Bret Michaels rocked an awesome, record breaking crowd he also met with local children living with diabetes. Michaels, who himself is a lifelong, type 1 diabetic since the age of 6, took time to talk to the children about the importance of good diet, exercise and managing their diabetes. Bret founded his own Life Rocks Foundation that sends children with diabetes to summer camp each year.

With Veterans Day approaching, I’m asking to share the attached photo of my 91 year old Dad.

Dad is a World War II Veteran, he was a Japanese prisoner of war, one of only 7 whom survived the camp. He’s now the last living. He’s not only a Veteran, but my Hero.

GO NAVY!

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: A Mother Channels Loss To Help Others

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: A Mother Channels Loss To Help Others

I wanted to share the story of losing my son to underage drinking when he was 16. After finding him in a field passed away I knew then that I would share this story and help in anyway I could to share the dangers of underage drinking. I now work with a local group parents empowered and share Braxton’s story in hopes that someone will be saved from our families tragic event.

I will forever share this and help anyone I can. If we all shared ourselves this world would be a amazing place. Bret you are an inspiration and I thank you for all you do.
