Musician Suffers Serious Accident, Looks To Bret Michaels For Inspiration.

Musician Suffers Serious Accident, Looks To Bret Michaels For Inspiration.

My name is Michael Rose. I have a story of overcoming obstacles by being driven by the passion of music. In 1997 I had packed up everything I owned and moved from Huntsville, AL to Birmingham, AL to start my pursuit of my musical dreams. I was 23 and had began telling myself “if you don’t do it now, you will wonder what if all your life” so off I went. When I first moved I was working as a house painter and lined up work before I moved, but the paint work ended quickly and I was forced to take a job in a steel mill factory, a field of work I was not accustomed to. Fast forward 6 weeks and I am working on a metal sheer. It isn’t safe and next thing you know both of my hands are chopped off at the same time. I lost over half the blood in my body (had to have 5 pints of blood transfused), died for just about a minute. Eventually I woke up and have been fighting for my life ever since. So there I laid in this hospital bed, just lost my hands, I’m a guitar player and I just started living my dream that I had been longing for since I was 12 years old. In the blink of an eye it was all gone. The very first question I asked my surgeon was “Will I play guitar again?” he said “No”. It took me over a year, but I played again and have been playing ever since. I am a singer/guitar player/songwriter and am the brainchild behind my band Hook74 that I front write all the music for, record all of our music, film and edit all of our videos…all by myself without hands. I’m a husband, a father, musician AND a Rockstar! I never said “I can’t”, I never said “I quit” I never even asked “Why?” I just faced what was in front of me the best way I knew how. When I was 15 I used to carry a pic of Bret Michaels in my coat pocket as a reminder of what I wanted to be when I grew up, I think I’ve done a pretty good job of living up to it, the best I could!

Thank you Bret!

Michael

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Darcie Turns Cancer Into Her Calling

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Darcie Turns Cancer Into Her Calling

I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in February 2008. I was 31 years old and breast cancer had never crossed my mind. Since my diagnosis, I have had 2 reoccurrences, 7 surgeries, 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 66 radiation treatments and countless tests and body scans. I am finally cancer free and have been since June 2011. I am beyond happy! I am a fighter and survivor! Cancer will always be a part of my life, but I will never let it define me.

Cancer has brought some good to my life along with the challenges. It has taught me to appreciate the little things. Focus on what’s really important. It’s not lots of money, fancy things, or power; it’s TIME! Time is truly a gift and it should not be wasted. Spend time with the ones you love because however much we want it to, it won’t last forever. I cherish every minute, especially the time spent with my son Dylan. Dylan is my life’s greatest work. I love him beyond words and I must fight to be here to see him grow up.

I also devote more time to fundraising for charities. After my diagnosis, the importance of fundraising became much more personal. I participate in the American Cancer society Making Strides Against Breast cancer walks, St. Judes, March of Dimes, Vickies Angels (local charity that helps cancer patients pay their day to day bills during treatment) and any type of military fundraising events. I do as much as I can to help make a difference. There is never a donation ( or deed) too small. Every penny truly makes a difference and can change someone’s world.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Trina Finds Strength During Cancer Battle

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Trina Finds Strength During Cancer Battle

Good Morning, My name is Trina and I was blessed to have met Bret 3 times in 6 months. I first met him on June 22, 2013 at Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie, TX, then a few Months Later at the Concert Pub North in Houston on Oct. 5, 2013 and again on Dec. 26, 2013 at the Concert Pub. The First time I met Bret I had just finished up 4 hard rounds of chemo for lung cancer and had had my left lower lung removed. I was called a stage 1 2b before the chemo and surgery! I stayed cancer free for about 6 month when new ct scan show 3 nodule on my lungs. They watched them hoping they were just caused from infection, so next test set for Nov. was pet scan and it showed the nodules have grown and now it’s not just 3, it’s a total of 11 nodules. A needle biopsy was done a few days later and the test showed that the cancer has reared it’s ugly head once more and I am now stage 4 lung cancer and the fight is back on.  I put off my chemo that should have started on Dec. 18th which was my 50th Birthday and the show to see Bret was the 26th Of Dec. I knew I would be too sick to attend the show, so I put it off. I celebrated my birthday with all my girlfriends and got meet Bret again. I had just been in hospital a few days before Christmas, so I gave him a wrist band from my hospital stay for lung cancer awareness and I gave the band members one too. They were all just stand up cool guys, I was happy to meet them all. What a great birthday, holiday bash! Just did my chemo on January 8th, I have 5 more rounds to go every 3 weeks. I’m hoping the BMB will be back in the Houston area soon!

Thanks again, I’m keeping the faith! Life rocks and cancer sucks!

Much Love,

Trina

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Holly’s Wish Becomes Reality

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Holly’s Wish Becomes Reality

In wild anticipation we waited in line to get our wrist bands for the Bret Michaels
concert. Holly, our UnityAJourneyOfHope.org wish recipient who is battling multiple myeloma sat nervously tapping her toes awaiting her chance to meet her life long inspiration. Suddenly the venue fills with excitement, BRET MICHAELS appears rockin the sold out crowd. Holly smiled from ear to ear and her exhaustion turns to instant energy. We turn around and she is chair dancing supported by her two daughters.

Holly and Unity volunteers made their way to the stage parting the sea of patrons in
order to get her to her hero. Through the concert Bret made eye contact with Holly and once he saw the UnityAJourneyOfHope.org t-shirt he knew he would be meeting Holly after the concert! He came over to her, kissed her hand, she melts and he gives her his guitar pick which was over the top for her! Holly is already in 7th heaven gets to meet Bret in person after the concert!

This is what UNITY is all about “Changing lives, 1 wish at a time…” We are Unity A
Journey Of Hope. Unity grants wishes to adults with a life limiting illness in the greater Pittsburgh area. Holly’s wish is one of many where UNITY changes the focus. We are so glad to help make Holly’s wish come true.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Cathy’s Courageous Breast Cancer Battle #PINKTOBER

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Cathy’s Courageous Breast Cancer Battle #PINKTOBER

Hi! I’m a longtime fan. I have battled breast cancer starting May 11, 2011. I had a double masectomy. I can’t have any reconstruction and recently I found out I carry the brca 2 gene and had to be opened up to remove my ovaries. I’m one month out from that surgery. Eleven days before I was diagnosed with breast cancer I lost my mother to a rare kidney cancer. I had been taking care of her when I found a
lump. I refused to leave my Mona’s side. After she passed, I was diagnosed. I had
surgery to remove both breasts, 22 chemo treatments, 35 radiation treatments in total and lost all my hair.

Now I’ve been on tamoxifen for five years. My husband recently surprised me w tickets to see Bret in Houston, TX on Oct 5th. We live in South Georgia so we are flying in for the show. I miss his kick off for Pinktober in Orlando and I’m so excited to see him.

He is such an inspiration to me. Always helping others and can’t wait to see him.

Sincerely,
Cathy Holt

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org story: A daughter’s compassion makes a mother’s dream come true

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org story: A daughter’s compassion makes a mother’s dream come true

Hello,

My name is Jessica Babcock. I am 16 years old and am writing in hopes you will help my moms dream come true. She is a HUGE Bret Michaels fan-she has seen him 6x all over the place including Tampa FL where she was in the frontrow!

I write because my mom is a young widow. My dad John died a few years ago from a massive heart attack, we found him collapsed in our bathroom where he hit his head. He was in good health and just passed a physical for his job. He had no health conditions. My mom has since raised my sister Belle (age 10 now) and I all alone. She has been my best friend and is the most patient understanding person. I developed severe PTSD after my dad’s death and have many Drs appts. My dad used to take my mom to Bret concerts!

Then shortly after his passing my cousin, my mom’s nephew PFC Michael Demarsico was killed in Afghanastan- (8/16/12) he was just 21. He stepped on an IED. My mom kept the family together – controlled the media and was the family rock. I know my dad is with Michael now. At the Bret Michaels concert the following weekend she cried through the entire set when Bret kept talking about our soldiers.

Through this all my mom has NEVER complained. I do hear her cry at night a lot, but she never shows it to anyone. My mom is a dance teacher and she just started a program for special ed children to dance! She just worked with a teen with MS – she choreographed a special dance from a chair – the entire audience was crying and on their feet. She gives to the community and kids- she also directs theater and works with children who can’t afford to participate and does it for free. My mom is amazing.

I would really like to make my mom’s dream come true and take her to a Bret Michaels concert. She NEVER does anything for herself it is always about my sister and I. This would put a smile on her face – even if just for 1 night.

Jessica Babcock

**********

Patrick,

I don’t even know where to begin with thanking you and Bret for last night.
I had such an amazing time meeting Bret and enjoying the concert. Bret
seemed to really like my little one Belle right from the moment he saw her
while he was performing – he picked her right out while we were backstage.
She thought it was great he called her sweet baby and waved to her on stage
while we were on the side of the stage and then shook her hand. But of
course it was the after the show meet and greet that was just unbeatable.

People always say what you see on television is always fake, but not with
Bret, he is truly genuine and the conversation we had was sincere and just
overwhelming. I feel like a burden has been lifted off my shoulders. We talked about many things and my daughter captured some photos that are just amazing you can see the passion in his eyes to know he really means what he says. He talked to Jessie about her letter as well. He then told Belle she reminded her of Jorga! And gave her a special guitar pick from his pocket. She was so excited. He of course signed the photos we brought, which I had taken in Tampa Florida at Busch Gardens (which he loved and asked me to send to you. He signed my Bret Michaels Doll, drum stick (from Tampa) and show poster. He was just patient and kind.

Patrick- you have been outstanding dealing with my daughter and I during
this. You are to be commended. You have really made my dream come true. I
know you mentioned wanting to share some of this on the website, you do have
my permission to use what you would like. I am just so impressed with Bret,
you and his entire company and the level of professionalism. I have been
sharing it all over facebook (I have thousands of followers due to my dance
teaching and theater company so I am getting lots of comments and positive
likes!!!) I am attaching some photos of Bret with the girls and I from
last night!

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story – Stephanie’s Dream Comes True

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story – Stephanie’s Dream Comes True

We were at Klipsch Music Center in Noblesville, IN. My wife suffers from RA, Fibromyalgia and Lupus. She has trouble walking very far and for very long. Myself and son walked around back to where Bret was riding his motorcycle in the parking lot, he stopped to take pictures with us and talked to us like he knew us all our lives. I told him about my wife and how disappointed she was going to be having missed him. When I mentioned it to my wife, she started crying and couldn’t believe she missed Bret.

Then much to our surprise, Bret sent Patrick to come out and get my wife, myself, my sons and my son’s girlfriend and brought us back to where Bret was. He took pictures with all of us and talked to us all. I want to thank Bret, Patrick and Janna for all they did. My wife still talks about it because it made her so happy. We hope to see you again. We talked to Patrick and Janna at Carb Day and they are both great people who really take good care of Bret on the road and are so good to his fans.

Thank you for all you do and take care!

Your friends,

Kevin and Stephanie McCormick

Last year I was in a bad motorcycle accident, shattered 3 vertebrae and my right leg. I was in a wheelchair for 4 months, had to learn to walk again and I’m still trying to heal. Pretty depressing year, but when you came to Dubuque, IA my best friend’s husband surprised us with passes to meet you because he knew I was a big fan, that was the best gift ever! 🙂

Can’t wait to see you again next year!
