Jen Gage, GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix Founder Calls Bret Michaels A Class Act & Generous

“Bret is truly a class act! Generous, Accepting and KIND. Letting the kids join him onstage for the entire set and taking the time to meet and talk with each one of them was above and beyond anyone’s expectations. Bret is truly compassionate about helping others. I so appreciate how involved he was with our participants and families.  They were grinning from ear to ear and still are. Truly magical and the whole room felt it! He embodies GiGi’s mission to change outdated perceptions of Down syndrome, break down barriers to participation and foster inclusion for all. GiGi’s Phoenix is so grateful to Bret for his huge heart and loving spirit and amazing energy. In just 15 minutes Bret created memories that changed the attending children’s lives and created memories that will last forever for everyone who attended.”

Bret Michaels Contributes To Operation Welcome Home Benefiting Military Heroes

Bret Michaels Contributes To Operation Welcome Home Benefiting Military Heroes

As the son of a veteran, Bret Michaels continues his longstanding commitment in support of our nation’s brave service men/women and first responders. Each night during shows on his record breaking “Party Starts Now” tour Michaels honors local heroes by bringing them onstage to pay tribute. In addition through his Life Rocks Foundation, each night Bret also makes monetary contributions to local charities across the country. While performing to a record crowd in Morgantown, West Virginia, Michaels met Tim Wolfe from “Operation Welcome Home”. Tim’s organization helps place veterans with jobs and assists with other needs as they return home. On this night, Bret donated a portion of proceeds from a live auction of his custom cowboy hat and stage worn shirt taking place from the stage and at the merchandise booth.

TeamBretMichaels.com Story: Bret Michaels Teams With A.J. Hawk To Help Sofia & Vincent

Update 6/8/17: We are happy to report Sofia’s cancer is in remission and she is doing great!

Update: We received these photos as a follow up to the story we did below just before the holidays where Bret Michaels’ Life Rocks Foundation and good friend A.J. Hawk’s Locks For Kids teamed up to help two awesome kids.
Just today one of the children, Sofia (aka Moo) received her wig. So happy for Moo and a huge thank you to Hawk’s Locks, our friends at Gemini Salon and Spa in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Kelly Ferro for the cut and style, and Leslie Thomas Zevnik at Wigs For Kids.

In the spirit of the holiday season, we’d like to share with you the following stories of hope, compassion in helping others and the off chance that two people can positively affect each other without even knowing it. Meet Sofia and Vincent, two children battling illness and circumstances beyond their control. Oddly enough, these children have never met each other nor have they ever spoken a word to the other, but their stories are linked together by way of two great friends in musician Bret Michaels and NFL linebacker A.J. Hawk through their respective charitable foundations.

Bret MichaelsLife Rocks Foundation recently met a spunky, outgoing 8 year old girl named Sofia who is battling lymphoblastic leukemia and because of intense treatments had lost all of her hair. Sofia’s fight with leukemia hasn’t been an easy one, but she remains strong receiving an outpouring of support from great family, friends, hospital staff and doctors. Even at 8 years old, Sofia has learned the meaning of paying forward certain gifts and toys she has received in an effort to brighten the day of another child going through the same thing she is. Sofia’s only wish, other than to beat leukemia, is to receive a wig.

Being that Bret and A.J. are great friends, Bret and his Life Rocks Foundation reached out to A.J. and his Hawk’s Locks For Kids foundation to see if they could help Sofia’s wish could come true. Without hesitation Hawk’s Locks For Kids went to work making this wish a reality and just recently Sofia had measurements taken for her new wig that she will receive in the coming weeks.

During the initial contact between Bret’s and A.J.’s foundations, Life Rocks met Vincent through Hawk’s Locks For Kids. Vincent is a vibrant, outgoing, awesome 13 year old boy who is living with Type 1 diabetes and autism. Bret, who is a Type 1 childhood diabetic himself, formed his Life Rocks Foundation out of necessity. One of the initiatives of Life Rocks is to cover the cost to send children living with diabetes to summer camp each year. In addition, Bret’s Life Rocks Foundation helps in teaching others how to manage their diabetes while raising awareness. With that being said Bret Michaels’ Life Rocks Foundation is sending Vincent to diabetes summer camp in 2016.

Huge thank you to A.J. Hawk’sHawk’s Locks For Kids” and Wigs For Kids on bringing their foundations together with Bret’s Life Rocks Foundation to get it done for these children.

We encourage you, if you have the means, to please consider making a donation to each of their great charities to continue helping great children like Sofia and Vincent. – Team Bret

We wanted to say thank you for hanging out with us after the show in Syracuse, NY @ The Taste Of Syracuse. It was our pleasure to donate for Diabetes charities to help FIND A CURE! You are the greatest and such an inspiration to me. Because of you and your music my sugars are in better control now and I don’t nor will I ever feel like giving up as I did before because of my struggles through diabetes. KEEP ROCKING ON <3

A Fan’s Throwback Thursday Story, Meeting Bret, Chemo & Inspiration

A Fan’s Throwback Thursday Story, Meeting Bret, Chemo & Inspiration

I met Bret 2 years ago after a concert in Hampton Beach, NH. I had just been told I needed chemo and cried all day. My friends convinced me to still go to the concert and do a meet/greet. Even though Bret had no idea what was going on, he was so incredibly nice, nicer than I ever imagined he would be. Two years later my treatments, surgeries etc are all done I had a chance to meet him again, this time with my daughter. We had a nice chat, I told him how much it meant to me that he was so kind and my daughter was thrilled to meet him too. In this day and age when stars are hero worshiped, Bret proves that he is the real deal. Bret is so charitable, so kind and thankful to all of his fans. Not only that, but every member of his band is just as nice and I’m so glad he’s feeling better.

TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Kindra Stays Positive About Diabetes

I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 4. It was the toughest time in mine and my family’s life, as it is for all children and the people who love them. One of my hardest times was in the hospital. It was hard for me to understand that every shot and finger poke was not the last one. That this was now a part of my new
life. I looked at my mom with big tears in my eyes and said Mom, I can’t do this and my Mom replied with bigger tears in her eyes and said Yes, you can and I have!

That was 10 years ago and now I am a healthy and happy 13 year old girl. I am a great student and gets good grades, I dances in competitions and have won numerous rewards, I love to be involved in the diabetic community doing the JDRF walks and attending the FCYD camps. And working with my mom and her club meeting with newly diagnosed kids at the hospital. And if you asked me today if I minds having diabetes, I will say, not really…

Bret with ADA Chicago reps Sue Apsey and Mallory Dahlquist

A few of our friends from the American Diabetes Association of Chicago were on hand Saturday night to watch Bret rock Frankfort, IL and shared their thoughts with us…

Bret Michaels is an amazing man, he is warm, generous and understanding of the hardships of having diabetes. By providing scholarships and sending children to summer camp, Bret offers youth with diabetes an opportunity of a lifetime to learn more about managing their disease and meet others with the same condition so they do not feel so alone. We are so grateful for his commitment to helping these campers thrive and grow as individuals as well as diabetics.

We had a great time at the concert Saturday night. Lisa Testolin was so appreciative of the opportunity. As a mom of a Life Rocks Foundation scholarship recipient to send her child to camp, she felt honored to be able to meet Bret.

For Mallory, a Bret fan and so connected through the ADA, this was really special. Again, so many thanks for providing all of us with the chance to attend the concert and especially to meet with Bret. The concert was a great one and Bret is so warm and engaging to talk with.
