TeamBretMichaels.com / LifeRocksFoundation.org Story: Ellie Gets Ready For Diabetes Camp

Our daughter Ellie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on March 2, 2010 at the age of 4. We had NO knowledge or experience with diabetes at the time of her diagnosis, so it came as a complete shock! After 4 days in the hospital, where we went through the phases of shock, fear, acceptance, and planning, we were released to learn how to care for our daughter, and to help her accept and live life to her fullest. Ellie slowly accepted what lay ahead with each passing day. 8-10 finger pokes a day, sleepless nights, numerous injections, adjusting her diet, and constant planning and organization.

Ellie has always had a carefree spirit and personality, and from the beginning Ellie has taken her diagnosis in stride. Along with diabetes, Ellie has had to transition 4 times to schools in different states, all the while becoming one of the most loved students in each school because of her incredible spirit, funny personality, and likability. Ellie has never let diabetes slow her down or negatively affect her attitude, and would never, ever want to be singled out because of her diabetes. She is a very active 8-year old who is a cheerleader and also plays basketball and softball. She has a great attitude and is such a happy girl with a GREAT sense of humor. She has a smile that lights up a room and we can’t wait to see what life has in store for her. We are so proud of her.

We are so thankful for Bret and the Life Rocks Foundation for sponsoring her for camp this summer. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Amy
