Do you have a story of giving back, supporting charities, overcoming obstacles, a story of strength, inspiration through music to battle through setbacks or illness? We’d like to hear and share your story and photos.
“I met Ava and her Mom Chrisie at Jorja’s All Star Ascend Fun Run. Talk about amazing spirit and courage. Ava had neuroblastoma (the same form of cancer Ronan had), for which there is no cure. So while I had a great time at Barrett-Jackson, it is moments like meeting Ava and Chrisie that remind me just how important and precious life is. While I realize that not everyone can donate to a cause, the simple act of helping to raise awareness is so important. Please help me, Chrisie and Maya raise awareness about this disease. If you can donate to organizations like Maya’s “The Ronan Thompson Foundation”, St. Judes, Barrows Neurological Foundation etc. please do so. If you can help by passing the message along to others, please do so. Every little bit helps.”
Today is Giving Tuesday, a day to give support to a charity or organization dedicated to making a change for the better in the world.
There are lots of ways to make a difference and give today, from children’s charities to animal charities to community programs – you can make a difference in a life by giving your time or a donation.
At Team Bret Michaels, giving back is something we do everyday through the Life Rocks Foundation. Children’s Cancer, Diabetes, Animal Charities and Military Support Organizations are just a few of the ways we are doing our part to help those in need.
To donate to the Life Rocks Foundation, click the link below. Thank you so much for all of the support that you have given the Life Rocks Foundation and all that you do to help spread awareness of all of the charities and organizations that spread awareness and raise money to help. We deeply appreciate it.
Rock Star Bret Michaels Opens Hospitality Room at St. Joseph’s Barrow Neurological Institute
(Oct. 9, 2012, Phoenix AZ) – Bret Michaels,multi-platinum rocker, reality star, philanthropist, entrepreneur and former patient at St. Joseph’s Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, today officially opened the Bret Michaels Hospitality and Music Room inside the hospital.
The room, which has been under construction for nearly a year, is located near patients rooms and features relaxation areas for patients and their families. It is decorated with a music theme and features many of Bret’s personal music memorabilia as well as never-before-seen inspirational photographs from his life and work.
“This is an incredible day for me,” says Michaels. “I’m thrilled to be able to give something back to the hospital that helped to save my life, and to the Barrow patients and their families. As someone who has spent his fair share of time in hospitals over the past few years, I know how necessary it is for both patients and their loved ones to have a fun, welcoming place to recharge – and I designed this music and hospitality room to be that place.”
In 2010, Michaels was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center suffering from a sub arachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening type of stroke that causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain. The hemorrhage left the musician in critical condition and he remained hospitalized at Barrow for the duration of his treatment. Joseph’s is the home of Barrow Neurological Institute and Michaels was treated by Barrow neurosurgeons.
After being released from Barrow, Michaels made a rapid recovery and went on to win Celebrity Apprentice in 2010 and enjoy a successful national concert tour. He then returned to St. Joseph’s in 2011 to undergo a heart procedure to close a hole in his heart.
